Lead Generation

Everyone knows, and if you have a business you are well aware of the need for customers. Probably even desperate for them. You can not have a business of any type without customers.

Customers buy what ever you are selling. Now I realize that there are many home businesses that focus more on recruiting than on getting customers but the reality of it is this. If you want your business to be solid you need a solid base of buying customers. So how do you get customers for your business? There are a ton of ways to get customers.

Flyers or sizzle cards for Leads

I have, in the past, spent many hours passing these out. I've gone from parking lot to parking lot putting flyers on cars, on office doors. Either way, they did do their job as far as getting me people to talk to. I got calls. This was extremely time comsuming and I had to make an enormous amount of calls.

Post Signs and pull tabs

I also tried Signs. I put them out. A lot of Nevada seems to be solid rock but still I went around pounding signs into the ground, hanging them on fences and any place else I thought looked good. I Don't really think those did even as well as the flyers. Pull tabs are mainly for billboards and similar places that allow you to post to.

Car Signs for Leads

Car signs. Yes we had one. We had it stickered to the our back windshield. Great big and bold. I think we got one call from that.

Business cards

I went around to a lot of local businesses and requested that they let us put our cards in their stores. Many of them did. We hardly received enough of a response on that to even mention it, but here it is.

Blog

Good content. Blogging is a great way to attract customers. Make sure you are posting good info. You can post for fun and run ads that match the audience your blog targets. You can write about your specific niche or you can write about things that interest you and that will peak the interest of others as well.

Purchasing leads

This at first glance appears to be the easiest. The idea is you buy leads from a lead company. These are supposed to be targeted. Targeted to what your doing. They are already looking for a working at home business or looking for the products that you are selling. Sounds great right? You will call these leads and the person on the other end will be begging to join your business and buy your products. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case, not even close. Many of the calls go bad from the get-go.

They have been put on a list and have been called so many times, they will want nothing to do with you or your business. Some of them simply filled out a form to get some free thing or another and without even realizing it they were added to a list and then sold to you and maybe others. Even if they are looking at a work at home business or some nutritional products you still have to sell them on what you've got. No matter how many times your upline says the products sell themselves, nothing actually sells itself.

 Social Media

Which brings me to social media, This in my opinion is an awsome way to promote yourself and your products. When you promote yourself properly you build trust. There is not better platform that can work faster than social networking sites. I suggest you join as many as you can and get active in them.

Why do many work at home businesses succeed while others fail?

There are some specific reasons why a some home business fail. One of the reasons is that when choosing a work at home business, the person did not do any research in the company they joined. They jumped headfirst before knowing anything about the company. Another problem is a lack of marketing experience.

You need to know how to promote your business. You don't need a degree but you need to know what options you have to promote your work at home business. That is where a good support plan within your company or group would come in. There are usually people who can help you decide what would be best for you and your business. They have been at it for awhile and are hopefully earning a decent income from it.

Another cause of failure is time management. You need to put a plan together and stick with it. Which brings us to time management. managing your time effectively is crucial. For the first few years. You need to treat it as a JOB. Make a plan, and each day follow that plan as though you are on a deadline.

The next point I want to make is about your expectations. Don't go into your home business all dreamy eyed thinking the money is just going to flow to you now that you have a soho business. It does take hard work, it does take time and focused effort but the rewards out way the struggles if you stick with it.

The last thing I want to bring up is the people you surround your self with. Believe it or not, not everyone in your life wants you to succeed. They may not even realize they are being negative but sometimes even those closest too you may not offer support. You have to realize this and rise above it.

Starting A Home Based Business

If you have reached this page I assume you have found a home based business and are looking for ways to promote your new business and probably some simple answers to the many questions you may have. If you have not yet picked out a home based business than I suggest you start here for information on a great company that allows you not only to start a home based business but to start with paying customers.

Now for those who have a home based business and need to know what you need to do next, I will go over a few important issues now.

First of all you should have a web site. Your own web site. Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines do not really like all of the cookie cutter sites that you get free or even for a fee with your current business. The reason for this is that they are exactly alike. It makes sense, why would Google want thousands of sites that are exactly alike to be features on the front pages of their search engines. The truth is they don't. They want fresh, new content for their viewers otherwise the viewers would go else where if they search a key word like say, Herbalife or Mary Kay and end up with exactly the same pages just associated with different affiliate or rep numbers. So first things first you need a good Domain Name.

Before you pick out your Domain Name you need to understand a few things about key words. You want to try to pick a Domain Name with a relevant key word to what your business pertains to. So if your business is in fitness you want to try for an available key word that not only suits your business but also something people are searching for. You also want to take a look at your competition for that key word so you need a word that people are searching for but that does not have too much in the way of competition.

Keyword are not what they once were but they are still valuable. First, check your keyword Here. This tool will be invaluable to you, so once your there save this site to your favorites. This is a free tool and will tell you how many people are searching that keyword per day. Then you can Get your Domain Name at Hostgator!

Next your going to need a reliable web hosting service. There are two companies that are reliable and affordable. I am sure there are others but I recommend Host Gator. I have had them for a long time and love them.

Now you can start building your web site, either, with their easy to use site builders which I recommend especially if your new at it, or you can create you own pages with an HTML editor like EditPlus, which I believe still gives you a free trial. Then upload your newly created pages to your web host. Another great tool is Wordpress.org to for templates for your website. Not as easy as a website builder but much more customizable and with more features.

I will be posting more information on how to get your new business up and running but I think you can take the first steps to getting your business up and running with the info here check back tomorrow for part two. I will tell you a bit about search engines and search engine optimization as well as give you a few more tools to help get traffic to your site.
